University of Utah deploys kiosks to replace gates and lot attendants

The University of Utah recently converted visitor parking lots across campus to pre-pay only lots, replacing the booths, gates and lot attendants with automated kiosks that allow visitors to pay for time by the hour or for the entire day, according to The Daily Utah Chronicle

The kiosks are designed to make parking more convenient and reduce the likelihood of visitors incurring extra fees.

Parking is validated by entering the visitor's license plate number. A credit card is required as the kiosks do not accept cash.

Lucy Boulton, visitor parking supervisor, said the system allows visitors to come and go without sitting in line to exit. It also eliminates the need for entrance tickets, makes it easier for customers to pay for their parking, and eliminates the chance they will lose their ticket and have to pay the full fee.
