Zivelo's acquisition of Oak Labs designed to simplify kiosk, digital sign deployment

Kiosk and digital sign company, Zivelo LLC, has acquired San Francisco-based software company, Oak Labs Inc., known for its interactive retail technology powered by OakOS. With the addition of OakOS, Zivelo customers and third-party developers can now build and deploy applications with the only developer kit designed for kiosks, according to a press release

With this acquisition, Zivelo cites the distinction of becoming the first interactive experience provider to feature a suite of software development tools along with its hardware product line and services offerings.

Oak Labs co-founder and CEO, Healey Cypher, will fill the CEO position at Zivelo, while Zivelo founder and CEO Ziver Birg will serve as executive chairman.

Within days, Zivelo clients will be able develop fully functional applications using common web-based frameworks and a comprehensive SDK. The move was designed to remove barriers that challenge the adoption of such technologies by brands and developers.

«People don't realize how frequently they use kiosks,» Cypher said in the release. «Public computing is becoming ubiquitous as customers demand easy, self-service experiences that don't require downloading an app. However, historically building and deploying kiosk programs has been way too hard. The new Zivelo introduces the first kiosk software developer kit on top of our beautiful product line. Building a kiosk experience has never been easier.»

The current $6 billion kiosk market is expected to grow to $30 billion by 2025, according to Credence Research, the news release said.
