Automated airport kiosks to triple through 2020

The global market for airport automated biometric facilitation will generate $1.3 billion in revenue over the next five years, with the deployment of more than 16,300 kiosks and eGates for automated check-in, auto bag drop, passport control, security checkpoints and boarding, according to a report, «The Airport Automated Biometric Facilitation Report: Form Curb to Gate,» from Acuity Market Intelligence

«The age of seamless international travel has arrived,» Maxine Most, principal at Acuity Market Intelligence, said in the release.

Currently, more than 5,500 automated border control eGates, passport control kiosks, check-in kiosks, auto bag drop units and automated boarding eGates are deployed at more than 300 locations in more than 80 countries, according to the report. The number of automated biometric facilitation units will triple by 2020 with expansions to dozens of additional airports.

«Though Europe will dominate the automated biometric facilitation market with 30 percent unit deployment and 35 percent revenue share through the 2022 forecast period, Acuity expects that just beyond the forecast period, growth in Asia will shift market dynamics towards total Asian domination by 2030,» Most said.
