Genmega, an ATM-maker serving the IAD market, and LibertyX, billed as America's largest retail bitcoin exchange, have launched what they have described as «the nation's first debit bitcoin ATM.»

According to a press release, consumers will be able to use their debit card to purchase bitcoin at any bitcoin-enabled Genmega machine. The functionality can be added through a simple software update. For the consumer, the bitcoin buying process is very similar to an ATM cash withdrawal, the companies said.

«We have been working tirelessly to make it easier to buy cryptocurrencies for the last five years and now are bringing simplicity, convenience and trust to the cryptocurrency purchasing experience through the timeless ATM,» said LibertyX co-founder and CEO Chris Yim.

For merchants and ATM operators, LibertyX is a revenue-generating product that can be enabled without any upfront cost or new hardware, the release said.

«ATM operators are always looking for ways to grow volume and transactions,» Wes Dunn, senior vice president of sales at Genmega, said in the release. «We are excited to work with LibertyX on this new initiative that will drive additional foot traffic to merchant locations and provide added revenue to our operators – ensuring they stay ahead of the market and bring added value to consumers.»
