Yum China Holdings Inc. has introduced AI-powered digital self-service kiosks at KFC stores in China and also has extended the use of Smile to Pay facial recognition payment technology, to more than 300 locations, according to a company release

KFC and Alibaba originally launched the digital kiosks in September. The Smile to Pay digital wallet was originally introduced in 2017 at the chain's Hangzhou restaurant.

Earlier this year, KFC introduced automated dessert stations at its Suzhou location. Customers using the dessert stations scan a QR code and a robotic arm serves one of three flavors of ice cream. By Sept. 30, the automated service was available at 1,000 locations across China.

«With our in-store technology applications, KFC and Pizza Hut Super Apps, and partnerships with leading technology partners, we have created a powerful digital ecosystem that offers a seamless experience for our customers whether they are on mobile, online or dining in our restaurants,» Joey Wat, chief executive of Yum China, said in the release.
