Gemalto plans to offer a more intelligent version of its new AT10K document reader which is used by government, airlines, hotels, banks and other private companies to help authenticate identity and automate other functions using a kiosk

Gemalto initially released the AT10K in September and has set a mid-January release date for the AT10Ki. The new version will offer similar features but is cloud ready, battery operated and has built-in networking, said Mary Probst, field marketing manager for document readers at Gemalto, in an email interview with Kiosk Marketplace.

Features of the AT10K include LED «landing lights» feedback that guides the user to properly place documents and a progress bar with tick/cross indicators that inform the user that the reader is processing and when the document can be removed, according to a press release. A document spine clip holds down documents and passport books, and a removable document hood allows for cell phone and tablet reading or use with gloved hands.

«They can help organizations and government agencies speed up passenger check-in and boarding at airports, give the right people the right zones when integrated with visitor management solutions, reduce fraud and deter identity theft during financial transactions, meet compliance regulations for age verification or tracking of mobile phone purchases, and many more,» she said.

Probst declined to comment on pricing, but noted Gemalto is getting a great deal of commercial and government interest for both readers.
