Technology provider AiFi and convenience store operator Valora are partnering on the «k kiosk box,» a fully automatic, checkout-free nanostore targeted to underserved markets in Switzerland.

The solution uses integrated sensor fusion and AI technology pioneered by AiFi, according to a press release. The modular, small-footprint stores can operate 24/7, selling everyday essentials to commuters, according to a press release.

A smartphone app grants shoppers entry to the store and also serves as the channel for automatic payments. The technology alerts kiosk managers in real time about inventory needs.

The Valora nanostore will launch by year-end, with distribution in communities that currently lack convenience store options.

«We are excited to develop this new shopping experience,» Valora CEO Michael Mueller said in the release. «With the k kiosk box, we are taking convenience to the next level, making it easier and faster for customers to get what they need.»
