A new library kiosk serving Millersport, Pennsylvania, has been a big hit with residents, according to the Lancaster Eagle Gazette.
In just six days following nothing more than a social media post from Fairfield County District Library Director Becky Shaade to announce it, and in freezing, conditions, 27 people checked out materials from the kiosk.
The kiosk, which sits under a bus shelter-like canopy in front of the police station next to the village office, holds 350 books, DVDs and audiobooks and can be used by anyone with a district library card. Library employees will provide requested materials about three times a week to lockers under the shelter.
Shaade said there will eventually be free Wi-Fi so people can access the library's digital offerings like ebooks and audiobooks. The total cost for the kiosk will be around $300,000, less than the ongoing costs of building and maintaining a library branch.
