KAL ATM Software is making available its OS Virtualization technology to all interested parties – including KAL competitors, according to a company press release.

OS Virtualization uses a technology known as a hypervisor to separate the hardware motherboard from the operating system so that software drivers unsupported by Windows 10 can be supported by the hypervisor software instead.

Hypervisor technology removes the need to upgrade current hardware when ATMs move to Windows 10, offering 20,000 banks worldwide the ability to protect their investment in software and hardware while remaining compliant with PCI.

KAL customers can license ATM Hypervisor directly from KAL; additionally, KAL is making available an OEM version to all software and hardware vendors. This makes the new technology accessible to the entire ATM industry, the company said.

KAL believes that wide adoption of the hypervisor technology will benefit the entire ATM industry by significantly relieving banks of the need to regularly update ATM motherboards in order to support new versions of Microsoft Windows. For the first time, banks will be able to control how and when they upgrade their hardware, and freely adopt new versions of Microsoft OS as they become available, the company said.
