The first of 620 downtown «smart» parking kiosks were installed along a portion of Main Street in Rapid City, South Dakota on Tuesday, according to a Rapid City Journal report.

The kiosks allow motorists to pay using coins, cards and smartphone apps. The city also introduced a web portal allowing parking fines to be paid online.

The city, having signed a $700,000 agreement with IPS for the meters in February, will install wheel clamps on vehicles with three outstanding tickets or more than $125 in fines.
