Metromatics has installed its lastest digital bus stop displays for the South Australian Department of Planning under brand name MetroSpec in Adelaide.

The MetroSpec LCD digital bus stop totems with inbuilt voice annunciators and hearing loops were installed for commuters at various Adelaide City Bus Stops, according to a press release. Locations include Tea Tree Plaza, Paradise and Klemzig O-Bahn interchanges and the Dumas Street interchange at Mount Barker.

The digital bus stop displays offer an outdoor digital alternative on the street for bus, tram and light rail stops. The displays not only provide transport information, but also real time passenger information to commuters including those requiring hearing assistance or who are visually impaired. The 32-inch high bright LCD display is also readable in sunlight.

The totems meet disability discrimination law in Australia by providing a service to those requiring hearing assistance (hearing loop) and visually impaired (text to voice) services. The hearing loop system encompasses proprietary coil technology and provides a strong signal with little interference. Due to the inbuilt coil, infrastructure costs are reduced because it does not require a perimeter to be dug into the floor.

The totems also include sleek, modern and thin design; «plug and play» functionality with inbuilt PC and 3G; and are weatherproof and vandal resistant.

The company has sold 17 systems to South Australia's Department of Planning, Transport and infrastructure, which has installed them in around Adelaide's New Light Rail System, O-Bahn Route and Busy bus interchange stops.

The standalone voice annunciator and hearing loop system was developed as a modification to the other 31 digital bus stop totems that we delivered to Adelaide in 2017. This modification was complete in September 2019. The company also developed this system into a different style housing for other projects such as Queensland's Cross River Rail Project at Roma Street Station, which was completed in September, 2019.
