Zytronic Displays Ltd., a U.K.-based manufacturer of touch sensors for ATMs, digital signage, self-service kiosks and gaming machines, recently enabled Itoki, a Japan-based company that manufactures office furniture, to develop a collaborative, multi-touch conference room table, which they named Face-Up, according to a press release.

A multi-touch screen forms the table surface, while a 48-inch ZyBrid sensor combined with a Zytronic ZXY200 multi-touch controller supports up to 40 independent touch points. At Itoki's request, Zytronic designed the touch sensor with broad, white printed borders to allow users space to rest notepads, cups, etc. and an anti-glare etched glass surface to facilitate smooth finger gliding during use.

Itoki developers sought a touchscreen technology that was unaffected by accidental touches and scalable to allow multiple users to interact simultaneously, according to the release. The table needed to be suitable for all kinds of meetings and presentations and needed to enable multiple users to interact with the same content.
