Spring training post-pandemic brings reverse ATMs, mobile ordering

As Cub fans return to Sloan Park stadium in Mesa, Arizona to enjoy Spring training, there will be changes in parking, concessions and retail purchasing, due to COVID-19, that may come as a surprise, according to a report by ABC15 Arizona.

Instead of accepting cash, stadium parking, food, drink and souvenirs will be cashless. To help patrons adjust to the change, reverse ATMs have been added the stadium. Instead of receiving cash, these ATMs will have cash inserted by fans and they amount inserted will be uploaded on a prepaid Mastercard that is dispensed like a receipt. If all the funds are not used during the time the patron is at the stadium, the card can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted.

Additionally, fans are encouraged to upload the MLB Ballpark app before entering the stadium. With the app fans can order seats and concessions through the app's mobile ordering tab. Once an order is complete, a prompt will request the fan's mobile number and a text will be sent to the phone with a QR code. At the concession stand, the fan shows the QR code to the cashier to receive their food and beverages. Food will not be made until the QR code has been scanned and orders cannot not be modified after placing. When ordering alcohol through mobile ordering, fans must show the cashier ID that proves they are 21 or older before receiving their drinks.

If an order is placed and not picked up, the card will not be charged until the QR code is scanned.
