Sensi, a tech startup in Dublin, Ireland, has introduced a machine that uses artificial intelligence to reward consumers for recycling paper cups, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and other common items, according to a Business Post report.

The machine has been designed to recognize thousands of recycled items used in retail environments, said Nathan Misischi, who developed the machine along with Dexmont Peña.

Unlike other machines that recognize the items based on a barcode, the new machine recognizes based on the item's appearance, Misischi said.

Once the machine accepts the item, it dispenses a digital voucher.

The company has already signed up a U.S. partner and plans to introduce the machines to Britain and North America in addition to Ireland.

The machines cost from €5,000 ($5,985.50) to €10,000 ($11,971).
