Portland, Oregon considers mandatory EV charging for multi-family buildings

Portland, Oregon lawmakers are considering requiring new multi-family housing with five or more condos or apartments to include electrical capacity and conduits for EV charging stations, according to an oregonlive.com report.

The city's Electric Vehicle Ready Code project exceeds state requirements by requiring buildings with six or fewer parking spaces to have the EV conduits at all the spaces. Those with more than six parking spaces would require conduits at half the spaces.

New multi-family buildings without parking spaces would not require the conduits.

The changes would not affect the nearly 140,000 existing multi-family homes where people can voluntarily install EV chargers.
