There's a new vending machine in Soldotna, and it's dishing out fresh meat, according to an Alaska Public Media report.

The vending machine, owned by Echo Lake Meats, dispenses everything from hamburger to steak and reindeer meat. It is custom designed for the state's weather and has a weatherproof sensor-operated glass door, according to the report. There's also an emergency release button.

«There's a couple in Utah, and some around the country, but not too many in America yet, and definitely a new one for Alaska,» owner Erick Watkins told the news outlet. «It feels weird, but think of it like a Coke machine that sells steaks and meat sticks and cheese.»

Watkins installed the machine after realizing his working hours don't often correlate with his customers.

«It gives people options to buy products that are normally not available, that saves people time,» Watkins told the news outlet. «You can always thaw a hamburger out that's in your freezer, but it tastes a lot better just to have it fresh.»

The vending machine is open 24/7.
