Internet kiosks known as «pisonets» have become popular among low income people in the Philippines who lack regular Internet access, according to a restofworld.org report. The estimated 60% of the people who don't have laptops or smartphones drop coins in pisonets to pay for access in 5-minute intervals.

School children have become regular users since pandemic distancing has forced many children to receive online learning.

The machines resemble arcade game kiosks with screens fitted into metal casings.

When the 5-minute access ends, the monitor goes blank, requiring an additional Philippine peso coin (around 2 cents).
