Last year according to the LIFE | NEWS data the number of ATM thefts in Russia increased by almost one third

Andrey Zholobov, the director general of the SAGA Technologies CJSC commented on the issue of the banking equipment security in the interview to the LIFE | NEWS portal. The increased focus of the media on this issue us caused by the significant increase of the number of attacks on payment terminals and ATMs in Russia last year. Upon the information of LIFE | NEWS, their number has increased by almost one third.

«During the last year 1248 criminal cases were registered and opened due to the facts related to stealing of money (from ATMs)», – the resource quotes the words of Vladislav Paramonov, senior criminal investigator for major cases of the Main Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Department of Russia.

The methods that the criminals use remain the same, as stated in the newspaper – whether to break the ATM in the place, or to steal and break it in a hidden place.

Now this will be practically impossible to do, says LIFE | NEWS. «You can protect the ATM from breakage and theft by two ways, – says Andrey Zholobov. – To anchor it to the place as strong as possible, and to make it as heavy as possible».

The weight of the new Russian-made ATM is about 1 ton, the thickness of the armor is increased two times – from 12 mm to 24. The model with such characteristics matches the third level of tamper-resistance. It will take at least 15 minutes to break this safe even for highly experienced safecrackers.
