Shelfx, an automated merchandising and inventorying machine that uses weight-sensing shelves and RFID technology, now allows customers to pay using the Venmo mobile app, according to a press release. Customers simply search for Shelfx within the app and send $10 to Shelfx to create an account

By entering the machine's number in the Venmo app, the customer can activate the machine to open the door. After the transaction, the customer receives an email receipt.

«As long as you keep a balance of $10 and above, you can open the fridge and take whatever you want,» Shelfx CEO Ran Margalit said in the press release. «This allows operators to accept Venmo on existing fridges today without the need to install any new hardware. If customers decide that they want their balance back, we Venmo the balance back to them, it is very simple. It puts Shelfx as a user company of different fintech solutions in the mobile payments world.»

Cloud-based Shelfx software lets customers set up and manage their account online. Merchants can manage the machine's operations using a mobile management application.
