SunTrust lands contract for branch, ATMs at Atlanta airport

SunTrust Bank has emerged the easy victor in its bid to provide ATM and branch banking facilities at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, the world's busiest airport

In fact, SunTrust was the only financial institution to tender a bid for the contract, according to a report by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Wells Fargo previously owned the contract, but bowed out of a rebid last year citing unprofitability. The bank said its ATMs netted $850,000 in declining fee income against an annual rent requirement of $1.7 million.

During the bidding process, Clear Channel advanced a proposal to provide ad-supported ATMs under its master advertising agreement with the airport. Those machines, to have been provided through a five-year sponsorship by JP Morgan Chase & Co., would have been available surcharge-free to all users.

The city council declined the offer, however, saying that the contract had to be competitively bid.

SunTrust told AJC that it intends to have its branch in the airport operational before Super Bowl LIII, to be held Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, in Atlanta.

In addition to the branch, SunTrust will install 16 ATMs throughout the airport, including one remote teller machine that will provide live teller service after branch operating hours. SunTrust said it will charge its standard $3.50 fee for off-us transactions.
