MedCenter self-serve pharmacy kiosks have been deployed in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, under a pilot program, according to a press release. Six of the kiosks are now available in a variety of locations, including grocery stores, pharmacies and medical clinics, with a total of 15 to be deployed by the end of 2018

Members of Express Scripts, a health care provider, and customers of the Inside RxSM prescription savings program, which provides discounts on medications to people who are uninsured or underinsured – can choose to fill their prescriptions at one of these MedCenters. Express Scripts recently announced a strategic investment in MedAvail, the healthcare technology company providing the MedCenters.

People who use the MedCenter kiosks have 24/7 access to comprehensive, multilingual pharmacists through private audio-visual communications built into the pharmacy center, as well as an integrated smartphone app.

Licensed pharmacists perform the professional functions associated with prescription dispensing: review of medical history and allergies; identification potential interactions with other drugs taken by the patient; and patient counseling, to address safety concerns with the patient prior to prescription pickup.

Over the course of the next year, MedCenters will be deployed in several states – including additional locations in Arizona and new locations in Illinois – to serve thousands of Express Scripts members.
