The sheriff's office in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, has installed financial kiosks to eliminate the need for detention center staff to handle prisoners' money, according to reflector.com

JailATM deposit kiosks in the booking area, lobby and detention pods were installed by PayTel Communications, working in conjunction with the sheriff's office.

Lt. Deborah Stokes, Edgecombe County Detention Center Chief Detention Officer, said the lobby kiosk can be used by friends and family to deposit money to an inmate's account. The kiosk in the booking area allows inmates to deposit money to their accounts when they are brought to the detention center. Kiosks in the pods enable inmates to order commissary items, file grievances, make sick call requests and read notices.
