Mozilla adds kiosk mode to Firefox

Mozilla has added kiosk mode to its Firefox web browser, a move that users requested 18 years ago. Windows users can now enable the browser to launch in kiosk mode using a «kiosk» command line, according to Neowin, a news and discussion site for IT professionals. The mode disables access to other parts of the operating system, which makes it suitable for retailers, libraries and other terminals.

Kiosk mode prevents access to the menu bar and the context menu. It also disables the F11 button and limits keyboard access. Such actions stop users from leaving kiosk mode to tinker with the rest of the operating system.

To enable kiosk mode, the user downloads the most recent nightly update, then right-clicks on the app to create Firefox Kiosk, a desktop shortcut. They then right click the shortcut and select «Properties,» then add «kiosk» without quotes in the target field at the command's end and press «apply.»

Users can also use «kiosk printing» to print without the print dialog when Ctrl+P or print command is used.
