The Manitowoc Common Council in Wisconsin has approved spending about $70,000 to install kiosks promoting city tourism.

The touchscreen kiosks will be installed at a Holiday Inn and the Inn on Maritime Bay, according to a Seehafer News report. The funding, approved by a vote of 9 to 1, was opposed by one Alderman and a local resident who believe tourists already have a great tourism tool at hand – the smartphone.

«To me this is kind of taking a step back. I mean this is technology from like maybe 20 years ago implementing kiosks. It would make sense then but today, honestly an app is probably the better option,» Alderman Brett Vanderkin said in the council meeting, according to the news report.
