RAL catalogue

RAL is a colour matching system created by the German State Committee for Conditions of Supply (Reichsausschuß für Lieferbedingungen und Gütesicherung) at the request from paints and lacquers manufacturers.

The Institute divided the colour space into ranges and marked each of them with numeric index. Since then the RAL company creates more and more colour samples because the requests of the developing market are changing. The numerous annotations to each colour range ensure the clear understanding in different industrial spheres. This colour selection system is necessary in many spheres where it is necessary to work with colours.

The classic RAL collection is a standard since 1927. At this time the standard comprises 213 colours (including 17 metallics).

All indexes are four-digit, the standard index is specified according to the following template: No. XXXX, where 1XXX – yellow (30 hues), 2XXX – orange (13 hues), 3XXX – red (25 hues), 4XXX – violet (12 hues), 5XXX – blue (25 hues), 6XXX – green (36 hues), 7XXX – grey (38 hues), 8XXX – brown (20 hues), 9XXX – bright and dark (14 hues).
