Harrison Elementary School in Janesville, Wisconsin, has added a new vending machine in its library, according to a GazetteXtra news report. The machine dispenses books for students to read and keep.

«I'm just trying to get kids excited about reading and having books of their own,» Harrison Elementary Reading Specialist Megan Schultz told the news outlet. Shultz helped make the machine a reality after seeing a similar machine in a nearby school.

Each student receives a coin to operate the machine and can choose from nearly 300 books. «We have filled the machine with K-5 interest levels, different genres and types of characters (and) all the types of books that kids are interested in right now,» Shultz added.

After the vending machine's initial year, the hope is that each student will have an increased opportunity to earn two coins and receive two books from the machine.
