The SAGA Technologies JSC business development director Oksana Kalashnikova took part in the official meeting «Energy security as the basis of uninterrupted operation of the self-service network» arranged by the CONNECT business journal

CONNECT (C): In your opinion, how important is the agenda of electric supply of the self-service networks? What can be said about the technical aspect of accessibility of energy supply and formal connection procedure?

Oksana KALASHNIKOVA (OK): The agenda of electric supply of the self-service networks is especially important when considering outdoor devices installed outside of the premises. The formal procedure of connection to the electric supply are highly labour-intensive and require many approvals. And even after receiving all administrative approvals there’s no guarantee that the electric supply will meet all the required standards.

C: Which requirements and standards are applicable in your self-service network in the context of equipment outage as a result of power loss? What consequences of these outages can you point out?

OK: The SAGA Technologies company has been present in the market of development and manufacture of self-service devices for ten years and has created tens of thousands of pieces, has gathered a huge statistic data on the requirements and standards of electric supply on the basis of clients’ and partners’ wishes. Our experts created a number of requisitions and standards excluding and minimizing the outage of business processes of our partners due to power failures. In the framework of the developed standards one of the main aspects of outage prevention is the use of UPS and/or power supply regulator. In case of non-observance of the created standards of electric supply the operator and/or the owner of the self-service network will face the following failures:

  • negative attitude to service on the part of client/user;
  • large amount of claim settlements on the outstanding electronic transactions;
  • equipment damage and vandalism as a result of failure.

C: What concepts of measures for ensuring the energy security of the self-service network has your company developed? Which place in it does the UPS take? What are the requirements to the UPS?

OK: The inseparable part of the mentioned standards is the use of the uninterruptible power supply units with stabilization of output voltage which enable a reliable operation in a broad range of input voltages. The UPS unit has to be equipped with the accumulator of sufficient capacity and a feedback to the computer for correct shutdown of the device and eventual resumption of work when the power supply appears.
